A mounted mythical cape gives 370 Construction experience for three teak planks, which is 123 experience per plank against the 90 that ordinary teak furniture returns. The cape comes back every time you remove the mount, so it is a one-off purchase and the planks are the only running cost.
That makes it the cheapest practical furniture method in the game at 6.6 gp per experience on 7 September 2026 prices, and the reason it is worth the awkward requirements.
Requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Construction (build) | 47 |
| Construction (effective) | 50, because of Dragon Slayer II |
| Quest | Dragon Slayer II |
| Room | Quest hall (level 35, 25,000 coins) |
| Hotspot | Guild trophy space |
| Materials | 3 teak planks and 1 mythical cape per build |
| Experience | 370 per build |
| Tools | Hammer and saw |
The level split confuses people, so to be exact about it: the guild trophy space lists the mounted mythical cape at 47 Construction. You cannot own a mythical cape without completing Dragon Slayer II, and that quest requires 50 Construction among its other requirements.
So if you already have Dragon Slayer II, you are already past 50 and the 47 is academic. If you do not, 50 is where this method starts.
A crystal saw covers the 47 requirement from base 44, but it cannot help with the quest requirement, so it does not change anything here.
The cape mechanic that makes this work
Most Construction training consumes its materials permanently. This one does not consume the expensive part.
The cape is returned to the player when the object is destroyed, so only one cape is needed when alternating between removing and rebuilding.
A mythical cape costs 10,000 coins from Jack at the Mythical Cape Store, on the top floor of the Myths’ Guild. Buy one, and it survives every build and remove cycle for the rest of the grind.
The one way to lose it. If you remove the quest hall room while the mount is still built, the cape is gone. Always remove the mount before you remove the room.
Why 123 experience per plank matters
Teak has a fixed ratio through ordinary furniture, and this build breaks it.
| Teak build | Planks | XP | XP per plank |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teak table | 4 | 360 | 90 |
| Teak garden bench | 6 | 540 | 90 |
| Mounted mythical cape | 3 | 370 | 123.3 |
At the 809 gp teak plank price on 7 September 2026, that is the difference between 9.0 gp per experience and 6.6.
| Method | Materials per build | Cost per build | Cost per XP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mounted mythical cape | 3 teak | 2,427 gp | 6.6 |
| Oak dungeon door | 10 oak | 5,150 gp | 8.6 |
| Oak larder | 8 oak | 4,120 gp | 8.6 |
| Teak garden bench | 6 teak | 4,854 gp | 9.0 |
| Mahogany table or gnome bench | 6 mahogany | 12,876 gp | 15.3 |
The full picture across every method, including Mahogany Homes contracts, is in the GP per XP ranking.
Setup
- Build a quest hall if you do not have one. Level 35 Construction and 25,000 coins.
- Buy one mythical cape from Jack in the Myths’ Guild for 10,000 coins.
- Set your house to building mode and stand at the guild trophy space.
- Carry a hammer and saw, the cape, and teak planks.
- Hire a demon butler if you have level 50 Construction, which by definition you do.
- Keep one equipable item in your inventory. This is not optional, and the next section explains why.
The house should be minimal. A quest hall you can reach from the portal without walking through three other rooms is worth more than any servant upgrade. The POH setup guide covers layout.
The full-inventory trap
This is the mistake that separates a 430,000 experience hour from a 250,000 one.
You cannot remove a mounted mythical cape if your inventory is completely full of planks. Removing the mount returns the cape, and the cape needs a free slot.
The fix is to carry one equipable item, such as a spare cape or a ring. If you fill up, equip it, remove the mount, and continue. Without it you have to drop planks or walk to a bank.
The training loop
The wiki’s cycle for a demon butler, which carries 26 items and returns in seven seconds:
- Send the demon butler away with 6 planks still in your inventory.
- Remove and build two mounted mythical capes.
- After the second remove, wait one tick and the butler returns with 24 planks.
- Repeat.
Twenty-four planks is exactly eight builds, and the six you hold back cover the two you build while he is away.
Some points on the rhythm:
- The guild trophy space is a single hotspot, so there is no alternating between two positions like a superior garden. You build and remove in the same place.
- Three planks per build is the lowest plank sink of any fast method, which means the demon butler’s trip covers more builds here than anywhere else.
- The seven-second demon butler trip is what the six-plank buffer is sized against. With a butler at twelve seconds and 20 items you will idle, and the servant comparison shows the gap.
Realistic and efficient XP per hour
| Execution | XP/hr |
|---|---|
| Maximum efficiency | ~430,000 |
| Good, practised | 350,000 to 410,000 |
| Realistic first sessions | 250,000 to 330,000 |
| Butler instead of demon butler | 200,000 to 280,000 |
The 430,000 figure is a ceiling from perfect timing, not an expected value. What pulls you down from it:
- A dropped tick on the remove. The mount takes a moment to return the cape, and rushing the next build costs the action.
- Running out of free inventory space. The full-inventory trap above.
- Servant fee interruptions. The demon butler charges 10,000 coins every eight trips. Pay before the counter interrupts a cycle.
- Walking. Any distance between the portal, the servant and the hotspot is repeated thousands of times.
- Latency. A single-hotspot build and remove loop is tighter than a two-hotspot one, so connection quality shows up here.
What it costs to reach your target
Builds are experience remaining divided by 370, rounded up. Planks are builds times three. Costs use the 809 gp teak plank insta-buy price on 7 September 2026.
| Levels | XP needed | Builds | Teak planks | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 to 66 | 394,921 | 1,068 | 3,204 | ~2.6m gp |
| 50 to 74 | 994,945 | 2,690 | 8,070 | ~6.5m gp |
| 50 to 83 | 2,571,781 | 6,951 | 20,853 | ~16.9m gp |
| 50 to 99 | 12,933,098 | 34,955 | 104,865 | ~84.8m gp |
Add roughly 50 gp per plank if you want the servant fee costed in. The demon butler’s 10,000 coins every eight trips works out at about 52 gp per plank on 24-plank trips, which pushes 6.6 gp per experience to about 7.0.

How it compares
Against oak larders
Oak larders at level 33 give 480 experience for eight oak planks, or 60 per plank. On 7 September 2026 prices they cost 8.6 gp per experience against the cape’s 6.6, so the cape is about 23 per cent cheaper.
Larders are faster per hour and available seventeen levels earlier. If you are below 50 and choosing what to build, oak larders are the answer. If you have Dragon Slayer II done, the cape is the cheaper way through the same stretch.
Against teak garden benches
Same plank, different ratio. Benches unlock at 66, give 540 experience for six planks, and run in a superior garden with two hotspots.
| Mounted mythical cape | Teak garden bench | |
|---|---|---|
| Level | 50 (47 build) | 66 |
| XP per build | 370 | 540 |
| Planks | 3 teak | 6 teak |
| XP per plank | 123.3 | 90 |
| Cost per XP, 7 Sep 2026 | 6.6 | 9.0 |
| Efficient XP/hr | ~430,000 | ~700,000 |
| Room cost | 25,000 gp | 75,000 gp |
Benches are roughly 60 per cent faster and roughly 35 per cent more expensive per experience. Over 66 to 99 that is tens of millions of gold against several hours. The teak garden benches guide covers the bench side of that trade.
Against Mahogany Homes
Contracts are cheaper still per plank, because the experience per plank on a contract is far higher than on any furniture build. They are also much slower per hour, at 130,000 to 210,000 depending on tier.
The cape is the middle option: contract-adjacent pricing at furniture-adjacent speed. See the Mahogany Homes guide if the bank is genuinely the constraint.
If you do not have Dragon Slayer II
The guild trophy space has three other options, all at 47 Construction and all three teak planks.
| Mount | XP | XP per teak plank | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mounted mythical cape | 370 | 123.3 | Dragon Slayer II |
| Mounted cape of legends | 300 | 100 | Legends’ Quest |
| Mounted amulet of glory | 290 | 96.7 | None |
| Mounted anti-dragon shield | 280 | 93.3 | Dragon Slayer I |
The mounted amulet of glory is the interesting fallback. It beats ordinary teak furniture’s 90 per plank with no quest at all, and a wall-mounted glory can be used an unlimited number of times without recharging, which is useful long after you stop training on it.
None of these match 123, but all of them beat a teak garden bench per plank.
When to stop using it
Switch at 66 if you want speed and can afford it. Teak garden benches use the same plank at a much higher rate.
Switch at 74 if you want to stay cheap but go faster. Oak dungeon doors are 8.6 gp per experience and around 550,000 an hour, with far fewer clicks. See the oak dungeon doors guide.
Stay on capes to 99 only if gold is the binding constraint and you would otherwise be doing contracts. It is roughly 85m gold and a long time, but it is the cheapest furniture route to a Construction cape.
Never build them past your target level. The cape method is cheap per experience but every method is expensive in absolute terms. Decide where you are stopping first, using the max house guide or the 83 vs 91 vs 99 comparison.
