Teak garden benches require Construction level 66, consume six teak planks and give 540 Construction experience per build. They cost roughly a third less per experience than mahogany while running the same two-hotspot loop, which makes them the standard choice for accounts where the bank is the constraint rather than the calendar.
Teak garden bench requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Construction level | 66 |
| Room | Superior garden (level 65, 75,000 coins) |
| Hotspot | Seating space, two per garden |
| Materials | 6 teak planks per bench |
| Experience | 540 per bench |
| Tools | Hammer and saw in inventory |
| Membership | Required |
The superior garden opens at level 65 and the bench at 66, so there is exactly one level between building the room and being able to use it.
The same loop, a cheaper bench
Teak garden benches and gnome benches share a room, a hotspot type and a training loop. The only thing that changes is which plank you feed in.
| Teak garden bench | Gnome bench | |
|---|---|---|
| Level | 66 | 77 |
| Experience per build | 540 | 840 |
| Planks | 6 teak | 6 mahogany |
| Experience per plank | 90 | 140 |
| Plank price, 25 Aug 2026 | 769 gp | 1,826 gp |
| Cost per build | 4,614 gp | 10,956 gp |
| Cost per experience | 8.5 gp | 13.0 gp |
Teak returns less experience per plank, but the plank costs less than half as much. The net effect is roughly a third off the cost of every experience point.
That means the superior garden you build for teak benches at 66 is the same garden you will use for gnome benches at 77, if you decide to switch. Nothing is wasted.
The teak garden bench training loop
- Build a superior garden and set the house to building mode.
- Stand between the two seating hotspots with a hammer and saw.
- Build a teak garden bench on the first hotspot, six teak planks, 540 experience.
- Build one on the second hotspot.
- Remove both.
- Repeat from the planks in your inventory.
- Call your servant and hand over noted teak planks while you keep building.
- Pay the fee before the eight-trip counter interrupts you.
Two hotspots consume twelve planks per cycle, so this is a delivery-hungry method despite the cheaper plank. A demon butler carrying 26 items covers two cycles with two spare; a butler covers one. The servant comparison covers the ladder.
What 66 to 99 costs
| Figure | Value |
|---|---|
| Experience at level 66 | 496,254 |
| Experience at level 99 | 13,034,431 |
| Experience to cover | 12,538,177 |
| Benches to build | 23,219 |
| Teak planks | 139,314 |
| Cost at 25 August 2026 prices | ~107.1m gp |
| Cost per experience | ~8.5 gp |
Compare that against the same 66 to 99 on the mahogany route, mahogany tables to 77, then gnome benches, and the gap runs to tens of millions. Compare the GP cost of your Construction method with your own numbers and today’s teak price.
The trade you are making
Teak benches are cheaper per experience and slower in two separate ways.
Fewer experience per build means more builds for the same target. 23,219 teak benches against roughly 15,000 mahogany builds over the same stretch.
More planks to move means more servant trips. 139,314 teak planks against 82,566 mahogany over 77 to 99.
Neither of those is fatal, but together they turn a shorter grind into a longer one. Whether that is worth a third off the bill depends entirely on which resource you are short of.
The cheaper teak method most guides miss
Teak has one build that breaks its own ratio. A mounted mythical cape, built in the guild trophy space of the quest hall, requires 47 Construction and completion of Dragon Slayer II. It gives 370 experience for three teak planks, 123 experience per teak plank against the 90 that ordinary teak furniture returns.
That is a 37 per cent improvement, and it drops teak’s cost per experience below oak’s at current prices. If you have Dragon Slayer II completed, it is worth pricing before committing to benches.
It is a different loop, though: three planks per build in a different room, with a lower plank sink per click. Whether the cheaper experience beats the slower rhythm is the same trade this whole article is about, one level deeper.
Teak garden bench advantages
- Roughly a third cheaper per experience than any mahogany build.
- Same room, same loop as gnome benches, so the setup transfers if you switch.
- Available eleven levels earlier than gnome benches.
- Teak is a deeper market than mahogany, so large orders fill more predictably.
Teak garden bench drawbacks
- Lower experience per build. 540 against 840, so more clicks per level.
- More planks to move. 139,314 over 66 to 99, which is more servant trips.
- Superior garden costs 75,000 coins before you start.
- Never the fastest. If hours are your constraint, this is the wrong method.
When to switch, and to what
Switch to gnome benches at 77 if your bank turns out deeper than you expected. Same room, same hotspots, better rate, worse cost.
Switch to oak doors at 74 if you want to go cheaper still. Ten oak planks for 600 experience is about 6.9 gp per experience, the cheapest furniture build in the game, and slower again.
Consider Mahogany Homes if the bank is genuinely the problem rather than a preference. Contracts cost a fraction as much per experience. See the Mahogany Homes guide.
The GP per XP ranking puts every method on one table, and the 1-99 training methods guide covers the full route.
Where your teak comes from
Teak planks can be bought finished, or made from teak logs by paying the sawmill operator 500 coins each. On 25 August 2026 the sawmill route cost 624 gp against 769 for finished planks. A saving of 145 gp per plank, or roughly 20m across a full 66 to 99 run.
That is a large enough gap to be worth the trips for most players, but it moves. The Oak vs Teak vs Mahogany comparison covers all three tiers, and the calculator’s Sawmill toggle prices both routes with values you enter.
Calculating your own teak garden bench run
The 66 to 99 figures assume you start at exactly 66. Open the Construction calculator, paste your current experience, set your target, choose teak garden benches and enter today’s teak plank price. It returns builds, planks, gold and hours for your account rather than a worked example.
