The tool

What Is the OSRS GE Price Tracker?

The OSRS GE price tracker shows what every tradeable item is buying and selling for right now, and what a flip would actually leave you after tax. Prices come from the Old School RuneScape Wiki real-time API, which aggregates trades submitted by players.

Two prices matter on the Grand Exchange. The high price is the most recent instant-buy, which is what you pay to get an item now. The low price is the most recent instant-sell, which is what you receive if you dump one immediately. The gap between them is the raw margin, and the Grand Exchange tax comes out of it.

Margin alone is misleading. A 400,000 gp margin on an item with a buy limit of eight is worth less per four hours than a 300 gp margin on something you can buy 13,000 of. The table shows both, plus return on investment, so the comparison is honest.

Prices that never go blank

A snapshot of every item ships with the page, so the table renders instantly and works even when the live API is unreachable. The browser then refreshes against the wiki and says which set you are looking at.

01

Full item coverage

Every tradeable item with a recent trade, searchable by name and filterable by members or free-to-play.

02

Tax-aware margins

Grand Exchange tax is subtracted from every margin, with the rate and cap as editable fields.

03

Six sort orders

Name, buy price, margin, return on investment, high alch profit and buy limit.

04

Alch calculator built in

Set your nature rune price once and the alch profit column recalculates for every item on screen.

Three steps

How to Calculate a GE Margin

Search, sort, then set the two numbers that decide whether a flip is worth taking.

Step 1: Find the item

Type any part of a name into the search field. Narrow to members or free-to-play items when you are planning around an account type.

Step 2: Sort by what matters

Margin ranks by gold per flip, return on investment ranks by efficiency of capital, and buy limit shows how much of that margin you can actually take every four hours.

Step 3: Tune tax and runes

Set the Grand Exchange tax rate and cap to match the current game rules, and enter your nature rune price so the alch column reflects what you really pay.

Formula

OSRS GE Margin Formula

One equation turns two raw prices into the gold a flip actually leaves you.

The margin formula is margin = insta-buy − insta-sell − tax. You buy at the insta-sell price by placing an offer at the low end, you sell at the insta-buy price by placing an offer at the high end, and the Grand Exchange takes its cut from the sale.

Tax is the term most calculators drop. It is a percentage of the sale price, rounded down and capped per item, and items under 100 gp are exempt entirely. On a two million gold flip that cut is the difference between a 60,000 gp margin and a 40,000 gp one.

Margin on its own still misleads. Buy limits cap how many units you can take every four hours, so the honest comparison is margin multiplied by limit, which is why both columns sit in the table.

OSRS Grand Exchange Margin
margin = insta-buyinsta-selltax

Every equation it runs

  1. 1. Grand Exchange tax min( floor(sale × rate), cap )
  2. 2. Margin insta-buy − insta-sell − tax
  3. 3. Return on investment margin ÷ insta-sell × 100
  4. 4. High alch profit alch value − insta-sell − nature rune
  5. 5. Profit per limit margin × buy limit

Worked example: a 2% tax flip

Insta-buy 2,000,000 gp, insta-sell 1,940,000 gp, buy limit 8.

Insta-buy (you sell here) live price 2,000,000
Insta-sell (you buy here) live price 1,940,000
Tax at 2% floor(2,000,000 × 0.02) 40,000
Margin 2,000,000 − 1,940,000 − 40,000 20,000
Return on investment 20,000 ÷ 1,940,000 1.0%
Per four hours 20,000 × 8 160,000

The raw gap looks like 60,000 gp. Tax at 2% takes two thirds of it, and the buy limit caps the whole flip at 160,000 gp per four hours. Both corrections are already in the table above.

Why this one

Why Choose Our GE Price Tracker

Six reasons this is more useful than a raw price lookup.

Tax in every margin

Grand Exchange tax is subtracted before the number reaches you, and the rate and cap are editable so the maths survives a game update.

It never shows a blank table

A full price snapshot ships with the page and renders instantly, then the browser quietly upgrades to live wiki prices and tells you which set you are reading.

Buy limits alongside margins

A wide margin on a limit of eight earns less than a thin one on a limit of thirteen thousand. Both numbers sit on the same row.

Alching costed properly

Set your nature rune price once and the alch column subtracts it from every item, rather than quoting a profit you cannot actually take.

Unambiguous columns

Insta-buy and insta-sell, not the vaguer buy and sell. You always know which side of the spread you are looking at.

Free and unmetered

No account, no request limit, no premium tier hiding the sort orders that matter.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Grand Exchange prices, tax and flipping.

Where do the prices come from?

The real-time prices API published by the Old School RuneScape Wiki, which aggregates trades submitted by RuneLite users. The page loads a snapshot taken at build time and then refreshes from the live API in your browser.

What is the Grand Exchange tax?

A percentage of the sale price, rounded down and capped per item, charged to the seller. Items under 100 gp are exempt. The rate and cap are editable inputs in the tool so the margins stay correct if Jagex changes them.

What does margin mean here?

Buy price minus sell price minus the tax you would pay on the sale. It is what a completed flip actually leaves in your pocket, rather than the raw gap between the two prices.

Why is the high alch profit negative for most items?

Because most items are worth more on the Grand Exchange than their alchemy value. High alching is only profitable where an item's alch value exceeds its buy price plus a nature rune, which is a small slice of the table.

What is a buy limit?

The maximum quantity of an item you can buy every four hours. It caps how much any single flip can earn, so a wide margin on a low-limit item is worth less than it looks.
