What Is the OSRS Construction Calculator?
A planner that turns any Construction goal into exact experience, planks, gold and hours.
The OSRS Construction calculator is a free planner that turns a Construction level into an exact list of actions, planks, gold and hours. Enter your current level or experience, set a target, pick a training method, and the calculator returns what stands between the two, down to the individual plank.
Construction is the most expensive skill in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) and one of the fastest. A full 1-99 runs about 172m gp and 12h 36m of building on the plank route, or about 35m gp and 86 hours on Mahogany Homes contracts. Those two numbers decide the whole plan, and guessing at them costs tens of millions.
Three groups get the most out of an OSRS Construction calculator. Mains use it to price a bank against a goal before buying a single plank. Ironman accounts use it to count logs and trips rather than gold. Anyone stopping at 83 or 91 uses it to see how much of a 99 they are actually paying for.
Level and XP inputs
Two linked fields for where you are and two for where you are going. Type a level and the experience fills itself in; paste an experience total and the level follows.
Method library
All 21 Construction training methods, each carrying its real experience per action, experience per hour, materials and level requirement.
Price engine
Editable Grand Exchange prices for every plank, nail and steel bar, plus a sawmill mode that costs logs and conversion fees instead.
Route solver
A planner that picks the highest experience rate you have unlocked at every level, switches the moment a faster method opens, and totals the whole journey.
Step by step
How to Calculate OSRS Construction
Four inputs decide the whole plan, and here is how to choose each one.
Step 1: Your Current Level or XP
Paste the experience total from your hiscores rather than typing a level. A level is a band, not a point: level 74 covers everything from 1,096,278 to 1,210,420 experience, so a level-only plan can be 114,142 experience out of date before you start.
Both fields stay linked, and the calculator uses whichever you touched last. Type a level when you want a rough answer in two seconds; paste experience when you are about to buy planks.
Step 2: Your Target Level (99, 91, 83, or custom)
Decide what you are buying before you decide how to buy it. Level 83 buys the mounted mythical cape for a fifth of the experience of a 99. Level 91 finishes the ornate jewellery box. Level 99 buys the cape, the free house teleports and a hammer you never carry again.
Anything in between works: type a raw experience figure into the target field, up to the 200,000,000 cap. Three-quarters of players who plan a 99 stop earlier once they see what the last eight levels cost.
Step 3: Choose a Training Method
Match the method to whichever you are shorter of, gold or hours. A deep bank takes gnome benches at 77 and mahogany tables before that. A thin bank takes Mahogany Homes contracts, which cost roughly a third as much per experience and ask for ten times the hours.
Any tile carrying a locked badge sits above your current level, so the plan it produces is aspirational rather than actionable. Switch the tile and watch the gold column move before you commit.
Step 4: Plank Price (live or enter your own)
Plank prices move week to week, so overwrite the defaults before a large buy. Check today's figures on the GE price tracker and paste them in. Every gold column on the page follows.
Switch to Sawmill mode if you would rather buy logs. The calculator adds the conversion fee to the log price and re-costs the whole plan, which flips the cheaper option roughly once a month as the two markets drift.
Formula
OSRS Construction Formula
One equation produces the plan. Four more turn it into planks, gold, hours and a cost per experience.
The Construction formula is actions = ceil(XP remaining ÷ XP per action), where XP remaining is your target experience minus your current experience, and XP per action is what a single build gives. The result rounds up, because a half-finished table pays nothing.
Everything else hangs off that number. Multiply actions by the planks each build consumes for the shopping list, multiply the list by plank price for the bill, and divide the experience gap by the method's hourly rate for the hours.
Level requirements and experience per action come from the game and never move. Experience per hour is a community-measured average, so treat it as a ceiling you approach with practice rather than a promise.
Every equation it runs
- 1. Experience remaining
target XP − current XP - 2. Actions
ceil(XP remaining ÷ XP per action) - 3. Planks
actions × planks per action - 4. Gold
actions × Σ(material price × quantity) - 5. Hours
XP remaining ÷ XP per hour
Worked example: 52 to 77 on mahogany tables
Mahogany tables give 840 experience for six mahogany planks at 900,000 experience per hour.
| Experience remaining | 1,475,581 − 123,660 | 1,351,921 |
|---|---|---|
| Tables to build | 1,351,921 ÷ 840 | 1,610 |
| Mahogany planks | 1,610 × 6 | 9,660 |
| Gold | 9,660 × 1,853 | 18m gp |
| Hours | 1,351,921 ÷ 900,000 | 1h 30m |
| Gold per experience | 18m ÷ 1,351,921 | 13.2 gp |
Twenty-five levels for a shade under two hours of building. The gold column is what decides whether that stretch is realistic, which is why prices are inputs rather than constants.

Camping Adept contracts from 50 costs about 35m gp and 86 hours, which is the ironman and budget route. Construction is members only, so free-to-play accounts cannot train any of these methods.

GP per XP is recalculated from the material prices you set in the calculator above.
| Method | Level | XP each | XP/hr | Materials | GP/XP | AFK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crude wooden chairs The first four levels and nothing more. Wooden bookcases overtake it at level 4. | 1 | 58 | 68,000 | 2 × Plank, 2 × Steel nails | 7.4 | , |
| Mahogany Homes: Beginner Averaged over a contract: 9.7 planks, half a steel bar and 865 experience. The wiki estimates 35,000 to 50,000 experience per hour without a plank sack. | 1 | 865 | 50,000 | 9.7 × Plank, 0.5 × Steel bar | 1.9 | AFK |
| Wooden bookcases Twice the experience of a crude chair for twice the planks, and the wiki's pick from level 4 to 9. | 4 | 115 | 129,000 | 4 × Plank, 4 × Steel nails | 7.5 | , |
| Wooden chairs Sits between the bookcase and the larder and beats neither. Listed for completeness. | 8 | 87 | 101,000 | 3 × Plank, 3 × Steel nails | 7.4 | , |
| Wooden larders The last regular-plank method worth building. Oak takes over at level 15. | 9 | 228 | 228,000 | 8 × Plank, 8 × Steel nails | 7.6 | , |
| Repair benches The first oak method. An oak plank carries 60 experience against 29 for a regular plank, and oak needs no nails. | 15 | 120 | 142,000 | 2 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Crafting tables The same experience per plank as the repair bench with twice the experience per build, so half the clicks. | 16 | 240 | 269,000 | 4 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Oak chairs Unlocks three levels after the crafting table already beat it. Skip it on the fastest route. | 19 | 120 | 142,000 | 2 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Mahogany Homes: Novice Averaged over a contract: 9.84 oak planks, half a steel bar and 1,887 experience. The wiki estimates 80,000 to 95,000 experience per hour without a plank sack. | 20 | 1,887 | 95,000 | 9.84 × Oak plank, 0.5 × Steel bar | 2.3 | AFK |
| Oak dining tables Identical output to the crafting table, in a room that is easier to lay out. | 22 | 240 | 269,000 | 4 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Oak armchairs Less experience per build than the dining table it competes with. | 26 | 180 | 209,000 | 3 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Carved oak tables A two-level stopgap that carries you from 31 to the oak larder at 33. | 31 | 360 | 386,000 | 6 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Oak larders The 33 to 52 workhorse. The wiki puts it at up to 480,000 experience per hour once the demon butler unlocks at level 50. | 33 | 480 | 480,000 | 8 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Teak tables Less experience per build than an oak larder, and teak usually costs more per experience than oak. | 38 | 360 | 403,000 | 4 × Teak plank | 8.2 | , |
| Mounted mythical capes Needs Dragon Slayer II. The cape is returned when the mount is removed, so only the three teak planks are spent. The wiki caps it at 430,000 experience per hour. | 50 | 370 | 430,000 | 3 × Teak plank | 6.0 | , |
| Mahogany Homes: Adept Averaged over a contract: 11.5 teak planks, half a steel bar and 3,276 experience. The wiki estimates 130,000 to 150,000 experience per hour without a plank sack. | 50 | 3,276 | 150,000 | 11.5 × Teak plank, 0.5 × Steel bar | 2.7 | AFK |
| Mahogany tables The fastest way to spend mahogany planks until level 77. The wiki caps it at 900,000 experience per hour. | 52 | 840 | 900,000 | 6 × Mahogany plank | 13.2 | , |
| Teak garden benches The gnome bench method on teak. Up to 700,000 experience per hour with perfect execution; the wiki says most players should expect 500,000 to 600,000. | 66 | 540 | 700,000 | 6 × Teak plank | 8.2 | , |
| Mahogany Homes: Expert Averaged over a contract: 12.71 mahogany planks, half a steel bar and 4,373 experience. The wiki estimates 185,000 to 210,000 experience per hour without a plank sack. | 70 | 4,373 | 210,000 | 12.71 × Mahogany plank, 0.5 × Steel bar | 5.4 | AFK |
| Oak dungeon doors Ten planks per build makes it the least click-heavy of the fast methods. The wiki caps it at 550,000 experience per hour. | 74 | 600 | 550,000 | 10 × Oak plank | 6.8 | , |
| Gnome benches Two adjacent seating hotspots let you build and remove in alternation, which is what lifts it past the mahogany table on identical materials. The wiki caps it at just over 1,100,000 experience per hour. | 77 | 840 | 1,100,000 | 6 × Mahogany plank | 13.2 | , |
Experience rates are the ceilings published on the OSRS Wiki: level 50 or above, a demon butler fetching planks, and perfect execution. Methods that unlock earlier run slower until then, because no servant below the demon butler can supply planks fast enough to keep the build cycle fed. The calculator applies that limit for you. Gold figures use Grand Exchange prices checked on 25 August 2026 and include the extra nails that bend while building.
Servants
Servant and Butler Comparison
Five servants fetch planks for you. The demon butler carries 26 per trip from level 50.
| Servant | Construction level | Hire cost | Planks per trip | Capacity | Wage per 8 trips |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rick | 20 | 500 gp | 6 | 500 gp | |
| Maid | 25 | 1,000 gp | 10 | 1,000 gp | |
| Cook | 30 | 3,000 gp | 16 | 3,000 gp | |
| Butler | 40 | 5,000 gp | 20 | 5,000 gp | |
| Demon butler | 50 | 10,000 gp | 26 | 10,000 gp |
Divide the fee across the planks it carries and it disappears: a demon butler costs about 48 gp per plank delivered, a butler 31 gp, against 1,829 gp for the mahogany plank itself at prices checked on 25 August 2026.
Comparison
Mahogany Homes vs Traditional Training
Contracts cost far less gold per experience and run far slower. Here is that trade, costed.
Contracts
- 20 Mahogany Homes: Novice 95,000 xp/hr 2.3 gp/xp
- 50 Mahogany Homes: Adept 150,000 xp/hr 2.7 gp/xp
- 70 Mahogany Homes: Expert 210,000 xp/hr 5.4 gp/xp
Contracts pay in Carpenter's outfit pieces, which give 2.5 per cent bonus experience as a full set and apply to every method in the skill. The plank sack holds 28 extra planks and roughly halves the banking, which is most of the gap between the low and high end of each tier.
Butler-fed plank training
- 33 Oak larders 480,000 xp/hr 6.8 gp/xp
- 52 Mahogany tables 900,000 xp/hr 13.2 gp/xp
- 77 Gnome benches 1,100,000 xp/hr 13.2 gp/xp
Plank training needs a house, a servant and an unnoted plank supply, and rewards fast clicking. A gnome bench and a mahogany table both give 840 experience for six mahogany planks, so the switch at 77 buys speed rather than savings.
Gold per experience, side by side
- Mahogany Homes: Novice 2.3 gp
- Mahogany Homes: Adept 2.7 gp
- Mahogany Homes: Expert 5.4 gp
- Oak larders 6.8 gp
- Mahogany tables 13.2 gp
- Gnome benches 13.2 gp
Shorter bars are cheaper. Novice contracts are the cheapest experience in the skill, and the slowest of the three tiers shown.
Targets
What Level Should You Stop At? (83 vs 91 vs 99)
Stop at 83 for an everyday house, 91 for the ornate jewellery box, 99 for the cape.
Everyday house complete
2,673,114 xp
- Portal nexus, 72
- Gilded altar and spirit tree patch, 75
- Achievement gallery, 80
- Basic jewellery box, 81
A popular stopping point because of where it sits on the curve rather than a single unlock. A fifth of the experience of a 99 buys every room most accounts use daily.
Ornate jewellery box
5,902,831 xp
- Ornate jewellery box, 91
- Fancy jewellery box, 86
- Ornate rejuvenation pool, 90
- Fairy ring, 85
- Portal nexus rooms, 72
Level 91 finishes the teleport hardware. The ornate jewellery box covers Duel Arena, Castle Wars, Ferox Enclave, Burthorpe and Fishing Guild with unlimited charges.
Construction cape
13,034,431 xp
- Construction cape, 99
- Unlimited free house teleports
- Acts as a hammer and a saw
- Build any hotspot from any room
The last eight levels cost more experience than the first ninety-one combined. The cape earns that back in inventory slots and rune costs on every trip afterwards.
Set the target field to 83, 91 or 99 and compare the three plans directly. The gold column moves faster than the hours column: the jump from 91 to 99 is 7,131,600 experience, more than the entire skill up to level 91.
Why this one
Why Choose Our Construction Calculator
Six things separate this from a static experience table.
Every method, not just the fast ones
All 21 methods are costed, including the four Mahogany Homes contract tiers most calculators leave out.
Prices you control
Defaults track typical Grand Exchange values. Overwrite any of them and the plan, the route and the gp per experience column recalculate together.
Sawmill costing built in
One toggle prices logs plus the sawmill fee against finished planks, so the cheaper option is a glance rather than a spreadsheet.
Exact experience, not rounded levels
Paste the experience total from your hiscores and the plan uses it. Planning level 77 when you are 1,600,000 experience deep throws away 125,000 experience of progress.
Nothing leaves your browser
No account, no hiscores lookup, no username. Every figure is calculated on your own device and saved only in your own browser.
Free, with no upgrade
The route solver, the cost breakdown and the full method table are all open. There is no paid tier holding a number back.
Gold per experience figures on this page line up with the published values from Theoatrix's Construction calculator, and item data follows the same identifiers used by osrsbox. Spot a rate or a price that has drifted and the contact form goes straight to a person.
