The tool
What Is the OSRS Gear Picker?
The OSRS gear picker builds a loadout slot by slot and totals every bonus that loadout gives. Choose a style, fill the slots, and the panel shows attack, defence, strength, prayer, the set price and your max hit as you go.
Every equipable item in the game carries fourteen numbers: five attack bonuses, five defence bonuses, melee strength, ranged strength, magic damage and prayer. A loadout is just the sum of those numbers, and the sum is what decides how often you hit and how hard.
Options in each slot are sorted by how good they are for the style you picked, so the strongest choice sits at the top of the list rather than buried alphabetically. Every option shows its attack bonus, strength bonus and Grand Exchange price on the same line.
Budget matters as much as bonuses
Best in slot is often unaffordable. Set a per-item budget and auto-fill picks the best set that fits it, which turns an aspirational list into one you can actually buy today.
Eleven slots
Head, cape, neck, ammo, weapon, body, shield, legs, hands, feet and ring, with two-handed weapons locking the shield automatically.
Style-aware sorting
Switch between melee, ranged and magic and every slot list reorders around the bonus that matters.
Set pricing
Each item carries its current Grand Exchange price, and the panel totals what the whole loadout costs.
Max hit panel
Level, potion, prayer and attack style feed the standard combat formula for a melee or ranged max hit.
Three steps
How to Build an OSRS Loadout
Set the style, fill the slots, then read the totals.
Step 1: Choose a style
Melee, ranged or magic. The choice reorders every slot list and decides which strength bonus drives the max hit. Set your account type and a per-item budget at the same time.
Step 2: Fill the slots
Pick items one at a time, or press auto-fill to drop best in slot into all eleven at once and adjust from there. Each pick shows its attack speed, requirements and price underneath.
Step 3: Read the totals
The bonus panel updates on every change. Set your combat level, potion and prayer to turn the strength bonus into a max hit you can compare between loadouts.
Formula
OSRS Max Hit Formula
Bonuses add up slot by slot. One equation turns the total into damage.
The max hit formula is floor(0.5 + effective level × (strength bonus + 64) ÷ 640), where effective level is your level plus a potion boost, multiplied by your prayer bonus and rounded down, plus the attack style bonus and 8.
Strength bonus enters as an addition to 64 rather than a multiplier, which changes how you should spend gold. Going from +60 to +80 adds more damage than going from +140 to +160, so the first upgrades in a slot are always worth more than the last.
Ranged uses the identical shape with ranged strength in place of melee strength. Magic works differently: the spell sets the base hit and magic damage per cent raises it, which is why the panel switches to a percentage when you pick magic.
Every equation it runs
- 1. Total bonus
Σ bonus across all equipped slots - 2. Potion boost
super strength: floor(level × 0.15) + 5 - 3. Effective level
floor((level + boost) × prayer) + style + 8 - 4. Melee max hit
floor(0.5 + effective × (str bonus + 64) ÷ 640) - 5. Ranged max hit
floor(0.5 + effective × (ranged str + 64) ÷ 640) - 6. Magic max hit
spell max × (1 + magic damage ÷ 100)
Worked example: 99 Strength with Piety
Super strength potion, aggressive stance, +120 strength bonus.
| Potion boost | floor(99 × 0.15) + 5 | 19 |
|---|---|---|
| Boosted level | 99 + 19 | 118 |
| Prayer | floor(118 × 1.23) | 145 |
| Effective level | 145 + 3 + 8 | 156 |
| Max hit | floor(0.5 + 156 × 184 ÷ 640) | 45 |
Special attacks, void, the salve amulet and slayer helmet multipliers all apply on top of this figure, so treat 45 as the standard hit rather than the ceiling.
Why this one
Why Choose Our Gear Picker
Six reasons this beats a wiki tab per slot.
Every equipable item
3,773 items across eleven slots, sorted by how good they are for the style you picked rather than alphabetically.
Bonuses you can read
All fourteen stats total live as you swap items, with negatives flagged so a magic penalty on a melee set is impossible to miss.
Priced as you build
Each option carries its Grand Exchange price and the panel totals the set, so aspiration and affordability sit on the same screen.
Budget-aware auto-fill
Set a per-item cap and best in slot becomes best you can buy, which is the version most accounts actually need.
Two-handed handled
Choosing a two-handed weapon clears and locks the shield slot automatically, so the totals never count a loadout you cannot wear.
Max hit built in
Level, potion, prayer and stance feed the standard combat formula, so comparing two sets takes one glance rather than a spreadsheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about loadouts, bonuses and max hit.
How does the gear picker work?
Pick an item in each of the eleven equipment slots and the tool sums all fourteen bonuses, prices the set at current Grand Exchange rates and works out your max hit from the strength bonuses.
What does auto-fill best in slot choose?
The highest combined attack and strength bonus for the style you selected, in every slot, inside your account type and per-item budget. Set a budget to see the best set you can actually afford.
How is max hit calculated?
Effective level is your level plus a potion boost, multiplied by the prayer bonus and rounded down, plus the attack style bonus and 8. Max hit is then floor(0.5 + effective level × (strength bonus + 64) ÷ 640).
Why is the shield slot disabled?
Because the weapon you picked is two-handed. Two-handed weapons occupy both the weapon and shield slots, so the tool clears and locks the shield until you choose a one-handed weapon.
Are special attacks and set effects included?
No. The max hit shown is the standard hit for the set. Special attacks, void bonuses, slayer helmet multipliers and the salve amulet are applied on top of that figure.
