Oak larders require Construction level 33, consume eight oak planks and give 480 Construction experience per build. They are the standard method from 33 to 52 because they return 60 experience per oak plank while sinking eight planks per click, which is the best combination of cost and click efficiency available at that level.
Oak larder requirements
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Construction level | 33 |
| Room | Kitchen |
| Hotspot | Larder space |
| Materials | 8 oak planks per build |
| Experience | 480 per build |
| Tools | Hammer and saw in inventory |
| Membership | Required |
The kitchen is one of the cheaper rooms to build and the larder hotspot sits in a convenient position for a short servant walk.
Why oak larders rather than another oak build
Every oak build in the game returns exactly 60 experience per oak plank. Oak chairs, oak dining tables, oak larders and oak doors all sit on that same ratio, which means they all cost the same per experience.
What separates them is how many planks a single click consumes:
| Build | Level | Planks per build | XP per build | Clicks per 480 XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oak chair | 19 | 2 | 120 | 4 |
| Oak dining table | 22 | 4 | 240 | 2 |
| Oak larder | 33 | 8 | 480 | 1 |
Four times fewer builds for the same experience and the same gold. That is the whole case for waiting until 33.
The oak larder training loop
- Enter your house in building mode with a hammer and saw.
- Stand at the larder hotspot in your kitchen.
- Build an oak larder, eight oak planks, 480 experience.
- Remove it immediately.
- Repeat from the planks left in your inventory.
- Call your servant and hand over noted oak planks while you keep building.
- Pay the fee proactively so the eight-trip counter never interrupts the loop.
The rhythm is more forgiving than mahogany methods because each build consumes a large share of a delivery, so you spend less of the loop worrying about supply.
Servant and plank flow
A cook carries 16 items, which is exactly two larders. A butler carries 20, giving two larders with four planks spare. Both fit the method cleanly.
Most players run this stretch below Construction level 50, so the demon butler is not yet available. That is fine: oak larders are far less delivery-hungry than mahogany builds, and a cook or butler keeps up comfortably.
If you are still on Rick or the maid, note that neither can visit the sawmill and both have long trip times. Reaching level 30 for the cook before settling in is worth the short detour. The servant comparison covers the full ladder.
What 33 to 52 costs
| Figure | Value |
|---|---|
| Experience at level 33 | 18,247 |
| Experience at level 52 | 123,660 |
| Experience to cover | 105,413 |
| Larders to build | 220 |
| Oak planks | 1,760 |
| Cost at 25 August 2026 prices | ~0.7m gp |
| Cost per experience | ~6.9 gp |
Oak planks were 414 gp each on 25 August 2026. Under a million gold for nineteen levels makes this the cheapest meaningful stretch of a Construction grind.

Realistic oak larder speed
Oak larders are usually described as a fast method for their level, and relative to everything before 33 they are. Published experience-per-hour figures assume a servant, unnoted planks arriving on schedule and a short walk to the hotspot.
Your rate depends on your servant, your house layout, latency and how consistently you click. Measure your own over twenty minutes rather than planning around someone else’s number. What does not vary is 480 experience for eight planks.
Oak larder advantages
- Cheapest practical method at its level. 6.9 gp per experience, matching every other oak build.
- Low click intensity. Eight planks per build is the highest plank sink available before 52.
- Forgiving on servants. Works comfortably with a cook or butler, so no demon butler needed.
- Short stretch. 33 to 52 is only 105,413 experience, a fraction of a full 99.
Oak larder drawbacks
- Modest experience per build. 480 against a mahogany table’s 840.
- Capped at 52. Nothing about the method scales; it simply stops being the best choice.
- Nothing kept. Every larder is built and removed.
When to switch
Switch at level 52, when mahogany tables open. They give 840 experience for six mahogany planks, 140 per plank against oak’s 60, which roughly doubles your rate at roughly double the cost per experience.
If gold is your constraint rather than time, staying on oak past 52 is defensible. Oak doors at 74 keep the same 6.9 gp per experience with a higher plank sink, and are the cheapest late-game build. The GP per XP ranking shows the full comparison.
Two alternatives worth knowing about:
- Teak tables open at 38 and give 360 experience for four teak planks, about 8.5 gp per experience. More expensive than oak and slower than larders, so rarely the right call.
- Mahogany Homes contracts cost less per experience than any furniture build. Slower, and the best option for ironman accounts. See the Mahogany Homes guide.
Getting your oak planks
Oak planks can be bought finished on the Grand Exchange, or made from oak logs by paying the sawmill operator 250 coins each. On 25 August 2026 the sawmill route was cheaper, but that gap moves with the market and can close.
The calculator’s Sawmill toggle prices both routes against each other using values you enter. The plank comparison covers how the three plank tiers compare, and the plank acquisition guide adds the Plank Make spell as a third option.
Calculating your own route
The 33 to 52 figures above assume you start at exactly 33. Most players do not.
Open the Construction calculator, paste your current experience from the hiscores, set your target, choose oak larders and enter today’s oak plank price. It returns builds, planks, gold and hours, and will tell you when a faster method unlocks along the way.
