Mahogany tables require Construction level 52, consume six mahogany planks and give 840 Construction experience per build. They are the standard training method from 52 to 77, and the point at which Construction stops being cheap.

This guide covers the requirements, the build loop, the costs and the cases where another method serves you better.

You also need your house in building mode, and a dining room built. A servant is not a requirement to build, but every practical rate assumes one.

Why 52 is the level everyone waits for

Two unlocks land almost together. The demon butler becomes hireable at Construction level 50, and mahogany tables open at 52. That pairing is why 52 feels like the real start of Construction training rather than a step in a ladder.

Before 52, the best available builds return 60 experience per plank. A mahogany table returns 140 per plank. The jump in experience density is what makes the method worth the plank price.

The mahogany table training loop

The loop is short and repeats until your planks run out or your goal arrives.

  1. Enter your house in building mode with a hammer and saw.
  2. Stand at the table hotspot in your dining room.
  3. Build a mahogany table, six mahogany planks, 840 experience.
  4. Remove the table immediately.
  5. Keep building and removing from the planks left in your inventory.
  6. Call your servant and hand over noted mahogany planks while you continue building.
  7. Pay the servant’s fee proactively so the eight-trip counter never interrupts you mid-loop.

Step six is where most of the rate lives. If you stop building to wait for the servant, you lose a large share of the loop to standing still. The demon butler’s seven-second round trip is short enough that a well-placed hotspot never runs you dry.

Inventory and plank flow

A demon butler carries 26 items per trip. At six planks a build, one delivery covers four tables with two planks spare, which is the awkward part of the method: the remainder never lands cleanly.

The practical approach is to keep a working stack in your inventory, hand over noted planks each time the servant returns, and let the remainder carry across cycles rather than trying to time deliveries to build boundaries.

Choose a house portal you can reach quickly and place the dining room so the walk between the hotspot and your servant is short. The player-owned house setup guide covers layout in detail.

Mahogany planks were 1,826 gp each on 25 August 2026. That price moves, so treat the total as an illustration rather than a quote. Estimate your mahogany table requirements with your own current level and today’s prices for a figure that applies to your account.

Realistic mahogany table speed

Mahogany tables are commonly cited as one of the fastest Construction methods, and they are, but published experience-per-hour figures assume a demon butler, unnoted planks arriving on time, a short walk to the hotspot and a player who does not pause.

Your real rate depends on click accuracy, latency, house layout and how often you have to re-stock. Treat any published rate as a ceiling rather than an expectation, and measure your own over twenty minutes before planning a schedule around it.

What is fixed and worth planning around is the 840 experience per build and the six planks it costs. Those numbers do not vary.

Mahogany table advantages

  • High experience density. 140 experience per plank, more than double any oak build.
  • Low click intensity for the rate. A single hotspot in a small room, unlike the two-hotspot gnome bench loop.
  • Available for 25 levels. Nothing better opens until 77, so you set the method once and leave it.
  • Simple room requirement. A dining room is cheap and quick to build.

Mahogany table drawbacks

  • Expensive. Roughly double the cost per experience of an oak build.
  • Mahogany price exposure. Your whole budget rides on one item’s market price.
  • Nothing to show for it. Every table you build, you immediately remove.

When another method makes more sense

If your bank is the constraint, teak garden benches at 66 cost roughly a third less per experience, and oak doors at 74 cost roughly half. Both are slower. Over the same experience the saving runs to tens of millions.

If you have already reached 77, gnome benches give the same experience for the same six planks and build faster because the superior garden has two seating hotspots. There is no cost reason to stay on tables, only a click-intensity one.

If you are an ironman or on a tight budget, Mahogany Homes contracts return far more experience per plank than any furniture build. The trade is a much longer grind. The Mahogany Homes guide covers how the contract track works.

The GP per XP ranking puts all of these side by side with the arithmetic shown.

Where the planks come from

You have three ways to obtain mahogany planks: buy them finished on the Grand Exchange, buy mahogany logs and pay the sawmill operator 1,500 coins each, or cast Plank Make on logs for 70 per cent of the sawmill fee.

Which is cheapest changes with the market. On 25 August 2026 the sawmill route was cheapest, but the gap was small enough that it can invert. The plank acquisition comparison works through all three, and the calculator’s Sawmill toggle prices both purchase routes against each other.

Calculating your own numbers

The figures above are for a full 52 to 77 run. Yours will differ, because you are not starting at exactly 52 and your target may not be 77.

Open the Construction calculator, enter your current experience rather than your level, set the target you actually want, choose mahogany tables and set the mahogany plank price to today’s. It returns the builds, the planks, the gold and the hours between you and that target, plus a route that switches method the moment a faster one unlocks.
