Gnome benches require Construction level 77, consume six mahogany planks and give 840 Construction experience per build. They are the fastest Construction training in the game, but not because they give more experience than anything else. A mahogany table gives exactly the same 840 for exactly the same six planks.
The speed comes from the room. A superior garden has two seating hotspots, so one servant delivery feeds two builds instead of one. That single fact is the whole method.

The superior garden is the expensive part of the setup at 75,000 coins, but it is a one-off against a bill measured in hundreds of millions.
What the two hotspots actually change
Read the numbers side by side and the method looks pointless:

Every column matches except the last. A dining room gives you one table space; a superior garden gives you two seating spaces sitting next to each other.
With one hotspot, the cycle is build, remove, build, remove, and every repetition happens in the same spot. With two, you alternate between adjacent hotspots, which removes the pause the game imposes between building and removing the same object. Over thousands of cycles that is where the extra rate comes from.
It also means the method consumes twelve planks per cycle rather than six, which is why the servant matters more here than anywhere else.
The gnome bench training loop
- Build a superior garden and set your house to building mode.
- Stand between the two seating hotspots with a hammer and saw.
- Build a gnome bench on the first hotspot, six mahogany planks, 840 experience.
- Build a gnome bench on the second hotspot.
- Remove both.
- Repeat while planks remain in your inventory.
- Call your servant and hand over noted mahogany planks without stopping.
- Pay the fee proactively so the eight-trip counter never interrupts the rhythm.
Positioning is the part people get wrong. Stand so both hotspots are within a single click without walking, and place the garden so the servant’s path is short.
Servant demand
A demon butler carries 26 items per trip. At twelve planks a cycle, one delivery covers two full cycles with two planks spare.

Mahogany planks were 1,826 gp on 25 August 2026. That figure moves, and at this volume a hundred-gold swing is over eight million on the total. Estimate the planks required for your target with today’s price before committing.
Note what 77 to 99 represents: 88 per cent of a full 99. Everything below 77 is a warm-up by comparison.
Realistic gnome bench speed
Gnome benches are commonly described as the fastest Construction method, and they are. Published experience-per-hour figures assume a demon butler, unnoted planks arriving on schedule, both hotspots within reach without walking, and tick-accurate clicking sustained for hours.
None of that is guaranteed for any individual player. Latency, click accuracy and how often you re-stock all move the number, and most people land meaningfully below the headline for their first few hours. Measure your own rate over twenty minutes and plan from that.
What does not vary is the 840 experience per bench and the six planks it costs.
Gnome bench advantages
- The highest rate available. Nothing in Construction builds faster.
- Cheap per experience relative to speed. 140 experience per plank, the best ratio of any furniture build.
- Set once. Nothing better unlocks between 77 and 99, so the method never changes.
Gnome bench drawbacks
- The most click-intensive method in the skill. Two hotspots, twelve planks a cycle, no pauses.
- The largest bill. 82,566 mahogany planks is the single biggest purchase in a Construction account.
- Demon butler required. No realistic fallback.
- Superior garden costs 75,000 coins before you begin.
When a cheaper bench makes more sense
Cost per experience is identical between gnome benches and mahogany tables, so switching at 77 buys speed only. If gold is your constraint rather than hours, two alternatives are genuinely cheaper:

Where your planks come from
At 82,566 mahogany planks, how you buy them matters. Three routes exist: finished planks on the Grand Exchange, mahogany logs converted by the sawmill operator for 1,500 coins each, or the Plank Make spell at 70 per cent of that fee plus a rune cost.
On 25 August 2026 the sawmill was cheapest at 1,661 gp per plank against 1,826 for finished, a saving of about 13.6m across a full 77 to 99 run. That gap moves.
